The Lufkin Area Alumnae Chapter (LAAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is deeply committed to implementing impactful programs and public service initiatives that promote academic excellence and enrich the educational experiences of the youth in our community. We believe that every young person deserves the tools, opportunities, and encouragement to reach their fullest potential.
Through signature Delta Sigma Theta programs such as the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, along with local mentoring initiatives, we provide guidance, educational support, and character-building experiences. These programs are designed to help youth embrace their strengths, develop leadership skills, and prepare for academic and career success.
We also engage young people through community service projects, cultural enrichment activities, and scholarship opportunities—ensuring they are equipped not only with knowledge, but with the confidence and vision to thrive.
By working hand in hand with families, educators, and community partners, LAAC continues to create a supportive environment where youth can dream boldly, achieve greatly, and grow into the leaders of tomorrow.

In accordance with the national initiative of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., LAAC offers Delta Academy. The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy was established during the 1996-98 biennium in response to the need to provide support and encouragement to young African American girls. The program offers opportunities to further develop skills in the areas of positive self-esteem, problem solving, and leadership and to increase academic success.
Program Goals and Admission Criteria Delta Academy is designed to provide an opportunity for young women to further develop the skills needed to be successful both academically and socially as they prepare to navigate the middle school years and transition to high school. LAAC is partnering with Lufkin Middle School to provide Delta Academy for eligible students. |
